Hugh Stephens

Founder of Sked Social, Founder & General Partner at Galileo Ventures

Hugh is a technology entrepreneur who ‘fell into’ the business world while studying medicine at Monash University in Melbourne. During his studies, he started Dialogue Consulting and provided risk management and strategy advisory service to clients including government, ASX200 financial services businesses and not-for-profits. After running a boutique consulting firm for 4 years, Hugh decided to use his technology skills to create an Instagram scheduling platform, having seen global agency clients struggle with inefficient mechanisms for the (then) emerging social network. Schedugram started in December 2013 and from the second month of operation began to collect revenue from customers.

 

What was initially built as a small tool for clients and colleagues quickly built a global user base from small businesses to global brands. In 2018, Schedugram rebranded to Sked Social as part of an expansion into scheduling for other social networks including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google My Business.

 

Hugh joined forces with James Alexander to create Galileo Ventures. Galileo's mission is to enable first time emerging founders. These founders Hugh regularly saw as under-funded and under-supported by the existing ecosystem as an angel investor. After three years of raising, Galileo launched its inaugural $10m fund in 2020. Galileo's focus is to invest at seed stage into emerging founders and actively help them take their startup to the world.

Hugh was listed as one of the Forbes 30 Under 30 founders in Asia, and was twice named one of Australia’s top 30 under 30 founders. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has research articles published in The Lancet, the Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare and the Medical Journal of Australia. His formal qualification is aBHumSci/BMedSci(Hons), and he has a very tolerant partner Harry and a very fluffy cat.
